About the artist

Having studied art to degree level at Winchester. This led to a 27 year career teaching in Portsmouth. During this time Andi continued to maintain her interest in art through commissioned mural work and leading art projects in schools plus working with local artists.

In 2019 she made a decision to focus on her own art work, and became an artist in residence across two schools, devoting one day a week to developing her own artwork.

Her figurative work reflects her continued interest in the human figure, especially the female form, which is central to her work. Andi’s work reflects and celebrates the bodies of real women.

Life experiences have had an effect on her approach to work. Much of the colour is influenced by the colours and forms of the Portsmouth coast where she lives, along with the Devon landscape where she grew up. Andi’s work captures these elements by using mixed media: typically using inks and acrylics on oil paper, creating beautiful ‘marbled paper’effects as the female figure emerges from the page.
